The Aziz Foundation is proud sponsor a six-month full-time paid editorial internship at GrantaBooks publishing house, open to people who represent and are active in British Muslim communities. The successful candidate will have demonstrable interest in the publishing industry and strong editorial skills. Applicants must be 18 – 24 years old and should have, or be expected to achieve, an upper second class degree or equivalent undergraduate qualification. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a long-term commitment to British Muslim communities.

Granta Books editorial internship £14,391 pro-rata (in affiliation with the Aziz Foundation,)

Granta Books, the independent publisher, is looking for a proactive and conscientious individual for a six-month, full-time editorial internship, starting on 1 August.

Please note: This internship is only available to individuals who represent or are active in British Muslim communities.

The successful applicant will have: 

  • Completed, or be entering the final year of, an undergraduate degree
  • Excellent attention to detail (grammar, spelling, style, consistency, accuracy)
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office programs and social media platforms
  • The capacity to write clear, effective copy text
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • A demonstrable interest in literature, journalism and the arts
  • A commitment to British Muslim communities

The internship will include some training and a variety of tasks, including:


  • Reading submissions
  • Contributing editorial feedback
  • Writing editorial reports
  • Preparing description copy
  • Attending editorial, acquisition and design meetings
  • Shadowing and contributing towards a structural edit of a book
  • Introduction to external partners such as authors and agents

Sales, Marketing and Publicity

  • Learning the sales, marketing and publicity best practices and critical paths
  • Attending all Pitch and Campaign Planning Meetings
  • Assisting with the creation of sales and marketing materials – from Advance Information Sheets to the ordering and manufacture of point-of-sale material
  • Introduction to external partners, such as chain bookshop buyers, literary editors, and the field sales force
  • Assisting with planning of external publicity events and author tours
  • Guidance on a personal project

Social Media

  • Working alongside the Social Media Team to produce content for our social-media platforms on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, which will involve learning best practices for engaging with our wide readership, sharing both classic pieces from our archive and promoting new content

General Office Management

  • Reception cover
  • Helping to run the post room
  • Assisting with mass mail outs of books to influencers
