Since joining the Aziz Foundation Scholars in 2018, I have completed a Masters in Creative Writing, Fiction Pathway at Royal Holloway, University of London. Alongside my studies, I have written and performed a solo play which was performed at the Roundhouse Last Word Festival as well as becoming a Roundhouse Resident Artist. I have started to leading poetry workshops with students from primary school to university age, working with organisations such as Poetry Society, Amal and English Touring Theatre. This year, I have performed poetry in Barcelona, Rotterdam and at the Glasgow Sufi Festival as well as at prestigious London venues such as Trafalgar Square, Royal Albert Hall and The Ivy. The financial support from the Aziz Foundation meant I was able to study, launch my creative career and continue voluntary involvement in Muslim community spaces such as Rumi’s Cave without having to dedicate time to an office job.
