University of Sunderland joins Preferred Partner Scheme

The Aziz Foundation is delighted to announce that it will be offering Master’s scholarships at the University of Sunderland, where talented British Muslims can receive a scholarship to undertake postgraduate study.

The University of Sunderland has become one of the Foundation’s Preferred Partners, having demonstrated a commitment to reducing its degree awarding gap and extending Widening Participation at the postgraduate level.

Inclusion is one of the Institution’s five core strategic values and in recognition of their efforts to raise aspirations and promote social inclusion at local, regional and national level, Sunderland was named University of the Year for Social Inclusion 2021.

It has a number of initiatives in place to close the degree awarding gap. including training for all senior managers on race and ethnicity developed in collaboration with Sunderland’s BAME Staff Network and student groups. Training sessions are also delivered to students whose work may require an understanding of how unconscious bias may impact their role.

The institution also boasts sector-leading prayer facilities on campus and a Muslim Chaplain is employed full-time.

We look forward to working closely with the university to widen access and increase opportunities at the postgraduate taught level for British Muslim communities.
