Preferred Partners in Focus: university of Liverpool
The University of Liverpool fully acknowledges the under-representation of Muslims at postgraduate study level. The University is determined to create an inclusive culture and has committed to Advanced HE’s Race Equality Charter with the goal of eliminating racial disparities for its staff and students, with 80% of this action plan now embedded into University business.
The institution aims to eliminate the degree awarding gap by 2024/25. There are several initiatives and programmes in place to ensure this happens such as a bursary offered to graduates in receipt of Widening Access Awards to continue their studies at postgraduate level.
Unconscious Bias Awareness training is a requirement for staff, with additional in person sessions delivered at departmental levels. As well as developing an online platform, ‘Report and Support’ for reporting racial harassment for students and staff, the institution has employed a Muslim Chaplain to support Muslim students. Awareness sessions are run around the support offered to Muslim students facilitated by the Muslim Chaplain.
