Aziz Foundation fellowship with Hyphen

The Aziz Foundation is partnering with Hyphen to offer a paid editorial internship to a British Muslim who wishes to pursue a career in journalism. After a successful launch in 2023, this will be the second time we have run the fellowship programme.

The Foundation works with organisations in industries where Muslims are traditionally underrepresented to deliver paid internship opportunities. These provide a valuable opportunity for British Muslims to develop their skills and gain useful industry experience.

Hyphen is a unique online destination, dedicated to serving an audience comprising European Muslims, thought leaders and individuals who wish to gain a deeper insight and understanding of the communities around them. Our catalogue of published pieces includes everything from longform features on rising Islamophobic attacks in Northern Ireland to explorations of the social significance of the German döner kebab and the changing face of Luton. As such, creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm are valued qualities.

The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced team of media professionals — including the editor and senior editor — from a range of different backgrounds to build the skills necessary for a future career in journalism. Over the course of the internship, you will assist in proofreading and fact-checking articles for publication, perform research, write short news pieces and conceive, pitch, develop and produce longer features. While narrative journalism forms the core of Hyphen’s identity, an interest in multimedia storytelling is advantageous.
