Aziz Scholar, Samie Kayani, has designed an installation at Istanbul airport inspired by Islamic Heritage and Science.
The installation celebrates the work of Fuat Sezgin, a renowned scholar in the field of Islamic Studies. The Turkish government has declared 2019 as the year of Fuat Sezgin.
The exhibition was curated by a team from Usturlab in Istanbul, a social initiative that specialises in the production of educational materials for young people. The exhibition will run through to summer 2020.
Below can be seen a reproduction of a 13th century door mechanism, inspired by the original design by Ibn al-Jazari in his scholarly work, Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices.
