Northumbria University joins Preferred Partner Scheme

The Aziz Foundation is delighted to announce that it will be offering Masters scholarships at Northumbria University, where talented British Muslims can receive a scholarship to undertake postgraduate study.

Northumbria University has become one of the Foundation’s Preferred Partners, having demonstrated a commitment to removing barriers to access and success for minoritised students and those from lower socio-economic groups. This is an integral part of its student recruitment strategy and is applied throughout the student journey from pre-entry to post-graduation.

The University, which holds a Bronze Race Equality Charter Award, is also strongly determined to decrease the BAME awarding gap. Initiatives in place to achieve this include equality and diversity training mandatory for all staff, with unconscious bias awareness promoted to support inclusive teaching and learning.

Located in Newcastle, in the region where young people are least likely to attend higher education – reflected in 40% of Northumbria’s students coming from low-participation backgrounds – the institution is determined to increase its proportion of BAME and Muslim students.

The University is committed to tackling Islamophobia on campus and increasing its proportion of Muslim postgraduate students. Northumbria University researchers have collaborated with Newcastle University produce a report on Islamophobia specifically in the North East region. The institution also offers social support to British Muslim students through a dedicated Muslim prayer facility where students can access confidential advice.
