The Aziz Foundation announces Fellowship at Hyphen

The Aziz Foundation is happy to announce a Fellowship at Hyphen aimed at British Muslims wishing to pursue a career in journalism.

As part of its commitment to increase the representation of British Muslims within journalism, the Foundation works to provide internships to help British Muslims gain the skills, knowledge and expertise required to secure employment as journalists. By working with a number of organisations, the Foundation hopes to improve access and representation for Muslim communities in traditionally underrepresented sectors.

The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced team of media professionals — including the editor and senior editor — from a range of different backgrounds to build the skills necessary for a future career in journalism. The fellow will proofread and fact-check articles for publication, perform research, write short news pieces and conceive, pitch, develop and produce longer features.

The deadline to apply for this fellowship is 12 noon, Monday 5th December. The fellowship is scheduled to run from January 2023 and the successful candidate will be based in the London office.

Hyphen is a unique online destination, dedicated to serving an audience comprising European Muslims, thought leaders and individuals who wish to gain a deeper insight and understanding of the communities around them.

It’s catalogue of published pieces includes everything from longform features on the barriers to appropriate mental health care encountered by young British Muslims and the importance of Muslim voters in the UK’s traditional Red Wall constituencies to stories about cooking a halal Sunday roast and the history of Manchester’s Curry Mile.
