Preferred Partners in Focus: university of Sunderland

The University of Sunderland – shortlisted for University of the Year 2024 by Times Higher Education – is committed to reducing inequalities within education, and is well placed to increase access to postgraduate study for British Muslims.

The gap in grade attainment between students from minoritised ethnic backgrounds and white students at the University has closed markedly across all groups since 2016, most recently standing at 5%. This has been achieved through an increase in attainment outcomes for minoritised ethnic groups, rather than a decrease in the performance of White ethnicity students. It is an ongoing objective of the University’s to further reduce attainment and graduate progression gaps by positively focusing on improving outcomes for students from minoritised ethnic backgrounds.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the University’s strategy, whilst its education and support services are inclusive by design, based on our lengthy involvement with diverse cohorts that have a range of lived experiences.
